Thomas Saunders was born in Charlwood, Surrey, in about 1380. He appears several times in the Charlwood manorial court rolls. (1) He was a witness to a grant of land in Charlwood in 1407. (2) Thomas Saunder married Joan Odworth, the daughter of John and Agnes Odworth of Charlwood, before 7th December 1406, the date of a lease from Agnes Odworth to Thomas Saunder and Joan his wife. (3)

Thomas Saunder made a will dated 10 August 1442. (4) He granted his capital messuage "which sometime was Stephen Saundre's" and other land in Charlwood to his son WIlliam, a tenement called Oddeworthe in Charlwood to his son Richard, a moiety of a tenement called Pages in Charlwood to his son John, and a tenement called Saundreplace in Charlwood to his son Thomas.

In 1451 Thomas Saunder of Charlwood and his son William granted a tenement called Oddeworth to Richard Saunder, the son of Thomas. (5)

Thomas Saunder and his wife Johanna/Joan were buried in Charlwood, with an undated inscription in the church porch. (6)

William Saunders (Incorporated in WikiTree profile)

William Saunders was born in about 1405, the son of Thomas and Joan. He married Joan Carew. (1) He appears together with his father Thomas in a grant of land in 1451 to Richard Saunders, son of Thomas. (2) " William's eldest son had migrated to Banbury, but Richard, his second son, remained in Charlwood." (3)

William Saunders died and was buried in Charlwood in 1481. His wife Joan had died in 1470. (4)

William Saunders (Incorporated in newly-created WikiTree profile)

William Saunders was born in about 1430, the son of William Saunders and Joan. (1) He had moved to Banbury, Oxon, by the 1450s. In a case in the Court of Chancery, date estimate 1452-54, William Saunders of Banbury was the defendant for failing to return goods entrusted to him. (2) He was a defendant for a debt of 60 shillings in a case in Common Pleas in 1460, described as William Saunders of Bannebury in com. Oxon, woolman. (3) He died and left a will in 1478. (4) In his will he mentions his wife Alice and his sons William and Richard. His sons William and Richard were the executors of his will, as shown in a Common Pleas case from 1484. The plaintiffs were William Saunders, of Banbury, and Richard Saunders, of Banbury, sons and executors of William Saunders, of Banbury, merchant. William Saunders left a will (PCC) in 1494. (1) In it he mentioned his eldest daughter Anne, and other daughters Isabel, Joyce, and Alice. His executors were his wife Johanna/Joan and her father John Spencer the elder of Hodenhill.
