Welcome to the Schindler One Name Study
About the Project
The Schindler Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Schindler name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Schindler name.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (German Schindlers), by time period (18th Century Schindlers), or by topic (Schindler DNA, Schindler Occupations, Schindler Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
Also see the related surnames and surname variants.
Once you are ready to go, you can also show your project affiliation with the ONS Member Sticker:
If a team does not yet exist for your particular area of interest, please contact the Name Study Coordinator: Charlotte Shockey for assistance.

Schindler One Name Study Goals
The objective of this study is to identify all Schindler cousins, also to sort out the brickwalls and find solutions.
What You Can Do
- Work cooperatively together with other Schindler profile managers to create the best Schindler tree possible.
- Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources to Schindler profiles.
- Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies for Schindler profiles.
- Check for duplicates and request merges.
- Contact Sarah to request PPP status for those profiles that meet the criteria for project protection. This will protect them from an incorrect merge.
- If you are a male with the Schindler surname or a variant and haven't already, please consider testing your yDNA through the Schindler FamilyTreeDNA Project (link below) so that we can all have a better understanding of our heritage and possibly make new discoveries.

I'm looking for another opinion as to whether this source is sufficient to create a profile, for what may or may not be an ancestor of mine.
Christoph Schindler from Genealogy.net DOB est. b. 1630 in Clausthal .....Married Catarina Krantz around b. abt1632 in Hörbach married November 9, 1652 in Sinn, died † April 27, 1681 in Sinn Sources mentioned, but no url links to actual records Page of source: https://www.online-ofb.de/famreport.php?ofb=herborn&ID=I12645&nachname=Schindler&lang=de
The more Schindler names that are entered the more likely that I will find one more generation that links to my family.

Mostly just looking for opinion based on pre-1700 rules. My main interest is in searching for my Schindler connections in Clausthal. These have no direct link to either the Schindler's or Schintler's of USA or Australia as of yet. My wish is to someday find one ancestor that will link both families together.
