Wyndham Robertson (1803-1888), the 20th governor of Virginia, son of this William, traced his family heritage to Pocahontas and authored historical texts.


Wyndham Robertson Papers 1768-1925,

Wm. Robertson, Eldest son of Arch(ibald) Robertson, another of this Register, was born in Prince George County, & sent to Scotland for his education, & resided (?) three years in the City of Glasgow, living with his Uncle Arthur Robertson. At the age of about 16 years he returned, (was put into a?) Store in the county of Brunswick in which his father was a principal partner at the age of 18, he lost his father, & when 21 years of age he again, went to Great Britain, remained about 12 months, taking a tour through the greater parts of England & Scotland

In the year 1772 he returned, having formed a (commission?) with a Mercantile house in Glasgow, under the Firm of Ramsey, Monteith (?) he carried on the business in that part of Petersburg called Blandford- about the close of the year 1774 he retired from business and resided at his place of Nativity in Prince George County a few miles below Petersburg, his mother died in the year 1773. - In the Month of May 1775 he married Elizabeth Bolling in Chesterfield County, and Bolling Hall in Goochland County- by her, he had Ten chil-

Powhatan Robertson, a lawyer, now resides in New Orleans, unmarried. Died at the Bay of St' Louis on the Gulf of Mexico on the 18 of October 1820 in the 23rd year of his age after four days illness of Malignant fever, He had a fine classic Education improved by a tour through France & Italy (?) finely qualified (?)

Elizabeth Robertson married Henry Lawson Briscoe in March in the Town of Manchester in the year1803 and died a few weeks later.
