The Scotland Project manages profiles of historically significant Scottish people, who may either have been born in, lived in, or died in Scotland. Improving these profiles, where necessary, with a well written biography which includes reliable sources, inline references and relevant images, is the main workload for the team. (See Profile Standards).

This team also:

  • Assesses profiles of people born in Scotland for the need to make them PPP or Managed (See Project Managed Profiles);
  • Coordinates with any existing PM;
  • Leads discussion about disputed or controversial aspects of the profile on G2G, or on a profile free space set up for such a purpose, or in the comments space on the profile;
  • Works on the Scotland Project data errors for all PPP and PMP profiles, especially in regards to errors in PPP and PMP status.

One team member may choose to do all of these tasks for a managed profile. More complicated and contentious profiles, or profiles involving a very tangled family, might involve a group of team members working together.

Hi Carole,

The 'sticker' you mention on Greer-614, is actually the Scotland Project box. It appears that the profile was project protected a couple of years ago perhaps because of bad merges and mistaken connections. See the G2G post at the time. When a profile is PPP'd it requires a project to manage it. I believe the Scotland project offered to manage only because of the surname, and no proof of origin has been found yet. Further discussion should perhaps be directed to the profile in question, or with a linked G2G post.

Thanks for your question, Carole. To my knowledge, Greer-615 is not a profile managed by the Project.

I just noticed the STICKER on Greer-615 Did you find a source to prove he was born / lived in Scotland? I will reread the profile but I didn't notice
