This page will collect resources available to assist in genealogy research to assist members of both the Scotland and Scottish Clans projects in their endeavours to build assurance into the profiles of our Scottish ancestors.

It is divided into groups but new pages will be added as the topics grow.

History of Scotland

Ancient Scotland covers the various kingdoms up to the period of the first unification in c. 850. This is a specialist area of work and you will need pre-1500 certification. The varying lineages are complex and often involve myths and legends and a robust approach is required. If this area interest you, please contact Doug.

Viking Scotland covers the period from the initial Viking Invasions in c. 850 until the surrender of the Orkney Islands to Scotland in 1472. It encompasses study into the Kingdom of the Isles.

Scottish History is an immense area of work which is outlined on the category page. This area covers the period from when the Kingdom of Scotland was first recognised in c. 850.

Cemeteries and Graveyards

This area of work is closely coordinated with the Cemeteries project and we follow their category naming conventions. The Top Level Category for work in his area is Scotland's Cemeteries. A valuable resource to the location of the cemeteries can be found at The Scottish Association of Family History Societies.
