Proposed Structure Modifications
This category structure is a simplified version of the previous structure, with some untangling of unnecessary subcategories. The development of a CIB would be beneficial for our Project. A discussion of what a CIB should include is outlined below this structure.
- Category: Scotland, Nobility – this is the parent category for all Scottish Noble and Royal sub-categories. It should contain only sub-categories and pages. Profiles should be categorized to lower level categories. There are currently 6 profiles in this category that need to be moved out. Parent categories should be: Scotland, and British Isles Nobility.
- Category:Scottish Nobility 742-1499 has 1 sub-category and 1 profile. The profile belongs in House of Alpin and should be moved. The sub-category, House of Alpin 742-1499 has been recommended for deletion, as it is empty. Recommend removing this category from the structure.
- Category:Ragman Rolls 1291-1296 – has 1 page and 18 profiles. If this category is to be kept, I think it should be moved out of the Nobility structure and into the Scottish History structure.
- Category: Scotland, Monarchs – this category contains no sub-categories. It holds historical profiles for the Kings and Queens of Scots from Cinaed MacAlpin to James VI. There is a working page of profiles for the Monarchs and two pages explaining the history of The First Interregnum and The Second Interregnum. Its parent categories are: Scottish Nobility; Royalty; and Featured Connections. There are currently 3 pages and 36 profiles in this category.
- [[:Category:Scottish Royal Houses]] – This category does not exist yet. It is a proposed category that would contain all the House of X categories that are currently listed under Scottish Nobility. That would require creating the category and moving 7 categories into it. This profile would not contain any profiles. Profiles would be categorized to their respective Houses.
- Category:House of Alpin – This category currently holds 4 sub-categories and some explanatory text that needs to be updated to remove European Aristocrats and Michael Thomas as managers. There is duplicate information that needs to be merged, etc. There are 40 profiles in this category. Parent category should be: Scottish Noble Houses
- Clan MacAlpin and Category:Clan MacAlpine need to be merged together. This is one clan. Clan MacAlpine is the official project category.
- House of Alpin 742-1499 – This category is currently empty. Created 11 Nov 2020 by a non-project member. This seems to be unnecessary and should be deleted.
- Siol Alpin – Holds sub-categories for the associated Clans for this royal House. Parent categories should be: Clan MacAlpine, and Ancient Scotland.
- Category:House of Balliol – contains 45 profiles. Parent category should be: Scottish Noble Houses
- Category:House of Bruce – Currently contains 104 profiles. Category text needs updating. Parent category should be Scottish Noble Houses.
- Category:House of Dunkeld – This category contains 18 profiles. The text on the page should be updated. Parent category should be Scottish Noble Houses.
- Category:House of Moray – This category contains 13 profiles. The text on the page should be updated. The parent category should be Scottish Noble Houses.
- Category:House of Stewart – This category contains 1 page, 35 profiles. The text on the page needs to be updated. The parent category should be Scottish Noble Houses.
- Category:House of Stuart – This page contains 2 sub-categories, 3 pages and 26 profiles. The text on the page should be updated, and the Clan sub-categories should be moved under the Clan structure and linked to from this category. Parent category should be: Scottish Noble Houses.
- Clan Stewart of Appin to be moved under Clan Stewart
- Clan Stuart of Bute to be moved under Clan Stewart
- Category:House of Alpin – This category currently holds 4 sub-categories and some explanatory text that needs to be updated to remove European Aristocrats and Michael Thomas as managers. There is duplicate information that needs to be merged, etc. There are 40 profiles in this category. Parent category should be: Scottish Noble Houses
- Category:Regents_of_Scotland – This category contains no sub-categories. It holds historical profiles for those who served as Regent of Scotland. There are currently 4 profiles in the category with a potential of 19 individuals identified.
- Category: Baronetage of Nova Scotia – currently contains 29 subcategories, 10 pages, and 16 profiles. This category should not contain profiles and they will need to be moved to their appropriate subcategory. Parent categories should be: Scottish Nobility, and Baronets. Potentially rename to match naming scheme: Scottish Baronets of Nova Scotia. Each category placed here will be named: Baronet of X. IF there were fewer than five persons who held the title, the category should not be created. A Free Space page will be developed that will include those titles with less than 5 holders.
- Category:Mormaers of Scotland – This category contains 11 subcategories, and 1 page. Parent category: Scottish Nobility, Ancient Scotland. The free space page contains the content formerly on category pages and needs to be cleaned up. Potentially rename to match naming scheme: Scottish Mormaers and High Stewards. Most of the subcategories are currently empty and may need to be renamed to match the naming scheme: Mormaers of X
- Category:Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 7 subcategories, 3 pages, and 24 profiles. Profiles need to be moved to their appropriate place in the list of subcategories. This category should not be renamed to match the structure’s naming scheme, because this is the proper way to refer to the Peerage. Parent categories: Scottish Nobility and Peerages of the British Isles.
- Category:Barons in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 4 subcategories, 1 page and 69 profiles. This category should not contain profiles.
- Category:Dukes in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 15 subcategories and 1 page.
- Category:Earls in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 69 subcategories, 1 page and 25 profiles. This category should not contain profiles.
- Category:Lords of Parliament in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 42 subcategories, 2 pages and 16 profiles. This category should not contain profiles.
- Category:Marquesses in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 6 subcategories and 1 page.
- Category:Scottish Representative Peers –This category should not be renamed. It is the correct way to refer to this group. This category contains 1 page and 13 profiles.
- Category:Viscounts in the Peerage of Scotland – This category contains 9 subcategories and 1 page.
