Introduction

This profile is part of the Edisto Island, South Carolina One Place Study.

Sea Cloud Plantation, possibly named for one of the owners, Normand McLeod.

Christopher Linkley/Linckley[1] received the land as a grant of 170 acres on Edisto Island in 1695. The property was acquired by Paul Hamilton Sr. in 1727, then by Paul Hamilton Jr. in 1748. There may have been one more Paul Hamilton involved. [2]

The property went from Paul Hamilton Jr. to his nephew Norman McLeod by will in 1799.[3] McLeod did not live on the plantation, and died in Boston. William Seabrook Sr. of Edisto Island was McLeod's executor after his death.[4]

The property was then acquired by Ephraim Mikell Seabrook. Seabrook, after being involved in a court case about the property, built a house on the land in 1825.[5]
