Julia Ann Alford Lott(1846-1918), according to family records and death certificate, was born November, 1846 and died April 24, 1918. She was married to Franklin Lott.

Julia Ann was listed as "Mrs Julia Ann Brimer" on her marriage license to Franklin Lott. No records have been found to date of a Julia Ann Alford (or indeed any Alford) marrying a man with last name Brimer. Interestingly though, the bondsman for her marriage license was John R Brimer. Possible a relative of her assumed late husband? J.R. Brimer married Elizabeth S Tidwell in Lawrence County on 27 November, 1888. John had brother Jonathon 12 years older (yes, a Jonathan and a John in the same family, assumed to be brothers), a brother named Simeon 2 years older, and a brother Isaac one year older, who all could have married Julia Ann. However, Jonathan was closer to her age. He was born in 1845, and Julia Ann was born in 1847. Simeon was born 1852 (5 years younger than Julia Ann) and Isaac was born in 1858. For Isaac to have been her husband, he would have been at most 18 when they married (and she 27). Thus, if one of John's brothers was her husband, it would be more likely jonathan or Simeon.

It has long been believed that she was the daughter of Fennor D Alford (abt.1815-1880) and Sarah A G Cherry (abt.1823-aft.1860). However, this cannot yet be substantiated, and seems unlikely. The 1850 census for Fennor Alford shows only three children, who are all accounted for in other records - Samuel, Allie (Alice) and Alonzo. [1] Alonzo is spelled Alonza in this census, and may account for what seems to be a clerical error in the 1860 census showing two females ages 12 and 14. With Alice being the 14 year old in 1860, there is no child who matches Julia Ann in either 1850 or 1860, or in any census where the family is counted.

On a "hint" that some family said she was known as "Mollie" more hunting has been done. Mollie is typically a nickname for Mary. Since after YEARS of searching for a Julia Ann who could fit into the family, we have begun looking at Mollie/Mary for clues. A number of family members have posited that she is the Mollie Alford living with John Hare and his wife Martha Barnes in 1870. She is also living with Martha's parents in 1860 as Mary Alford. She is 13 in the 1860 census. In 1850, this person is listed as Mary EB Alford (living with the Barnes) and another Margaret Alford, age 11 is also there. Mary was born in Alabama about 1847. Margaret was born in Mississippi about 1839.

The Mary Alford in the 1850 census with James Barnes and Rebecca Hiatt is probably the child of John Henry Alford and Mary E Barnes. They were married in 1839 in Sumter, Alabama. This could make them also the parents of Margaret, born in Mississippi in 1839. John marries again, this time to Margaret Williams, in August of 1850, probably after the 1850 census was taken. John is then found in the 1860 census in Neshoba Mississippi, so there is a high probability that the Margaret in James Barnes' household was indeed John's daughter. Why, if Mary and/or Margaret were his children, they never lived with him and his new wife, is unknown, although perhaps Mary Barnes died in childbirth when daughter Mary was born, and he had no resources to care for his daughters. Mary/Mollie was with the Barnes in 1850 and 1860, and with their daughter Martha Barnes and Spouse John Hare in 1870. Since her last name was listed as Alford, it is unlikely that Mary (or Margaret) were a child of an unwed Barnes daughter living in the households at that time.

It seems unlikely that this Molly is Julia Ann, but this page is to document all of our possible leads to her. There is literally NO record of Julia Ann Alford, who married some Brimer, and then married Franklin Lott.

There is also James W Alfred who has no daughters or wife living with him in 1840 in Sumter, Alabama. Perhaps this is how the two Alford girls end up in Alabama after the presumed death of their parents.
