17th Century Margerrisons of Brampton, Derbyshire

The name Margerrison is spelled in a variety of other of ways. For example Margerison, Marjerrison, Marjerison, Gerrison, Gerison, Jerrison and Jerison.

Some individuals are documented in the registers of St Peter & St Paul, Old Brampton, Derbyshire. However genealogy sites only have the registers dating from 1657. This is confirmed in a typewritten image obtained from Family Search, but this also mentions an earlier register which starts in 1537 and continues to 1657. Unfortunately this document appears to have been lost.

So the author of this is in the position that the earlier history (before 1657) of this set of families is not known from church records and no other references have been found. Therefore the birth and marriage of the Margerrisons before 1657 are unknown, but there are burial records after that date. Even worse, we cannot be certain of the relationships between various individuals bearing this surname.

Despite the above observations, there are family trees on various sites, including Wiki Tree, showing relationships and approximate birth and marriage dates. The profiles are not usually sourced and show symptoms of being copied. Perhaps some one has better information than the current author has been able to uncover.
