MISCELLANEOUS
The classification of the 344 Government immigrants who arrived on Tuesday evening by the Shackamaxon, is : 28 married couples, 255 single women, 3 single men, 19 children. There have been two deaths, one of a child and the other a man named Ross, who was killed by the stud-sail halyards carrying away, and the yard striking him, in its descent, on the head. Deceased bore an excellent character, and leaves a widow and two children to lament his loss. The ship is as clean both inwardly and outwardly as it is possible for ship to be. There has been no sickness beyond that of the child, who was consumptive. The immigrants are under the charge of Dr Jolly, who has now completed his tenth voyage in the service of the Emigration Commission, and who, on the present voyage, has originated a new system to keep the single women from wearying through the monotony of a long sea voyage, by starting a kind of bazaar, to be held on board at the termination of the passage, the articles all to be worked on board, and to consist of clothes and fancy work. Yesterday, all these articles were ranged with great taste in the 'tween deck, and presented a very pretty and novel appearance.

We, the undersigned passengers, on the termination of our pleasant and prosperous voyage from our native country to the land of our adoption, beg to return you our most sincere and heartfelt thanks for the unvarying kindness, attention, and watchfulness which you have unceasingly exercised towards us in every respect since our departure from the shores of England. We have felt the greatest pleasure in seeing the cordial co-operation with which you have seconded the efforts of our excellent Surgeon-Superintendent Dr. Jolley, in his endeavours to promote our comfort and happiness, more especially at times when we were unable to assist ourselves. Although it would not become us to speak of your professional abilities, we have always felt a sense of security while on board from the constant anxiety which we could not fail to see manifested by you, not only in taking advantage of all favourable opportunity to make a rapid passage, but your constant presence when risk or danger was to be apprehended. We heartily trust that you and the brave Shackamaxon may long be spared to plough the seas together, and that you may meet with every success and happiness. In taking leave of you we would wish to make mention of the kindness and civility which your officers have always shown towards us, for which we tender our thanks. (Here follow 300 signatures.) In addition to this, a handsome silver snuff-box, with an appropriate inscription, has been presented by the passengers to Captain Teulon.
