The SHAND Voyage to Portland Victoria 27/10/1854 - 20/01/1855

....The first number of the Portland "Chronicle" was published on Janu-ary 20th, 1855, by the proprietor, Edward F. Hughes, and issued from the Julia street office.....The Shand, from Plymouth, with 382 immigrants, arrived on January 20th, 1855. In addition, vessels in the harbor included the ship Birm-ingham, from Plymouth; ship Se-vern, from London ; and the barques Derry Castle, from Callao; Albion and May Queen, from London; and coasting vessels numbering fifteen. Shand - 836 ton - left Plymouth 27 Oct 1854 - arrived Portland, Victoria on 20 January 1855 after a voyage of 85 days. Surgeon Superintendent: Thomas Lightfoot.

We also beg to assure you, that it is with sincere regret we now take leave of you, and sincerely hoping that you may lead a long, happy and useful life.
