I have my Shannon line back to Lanty (Laughlin/Leachlainn) Shannon born 1735 in Mt. Bethel, PA, died 23 February 1797 in Lower Mt. Bethel, PA. I have some suspicions of Lanty’s Father being Daniel Shannon born in Antrim, Northern Ireland but nothing definite yet. If anyone has any information on this line I’d love to hear it. My Father recently passed away but his younger sister is still alive and I’d love to give her that gift of finding our immigrant Shannon ancestor. I have my tree up on Ancestry.com.

The current known origin of our name Schanne is in Fels, Luxembourg: Schanen, Michel I, born around 1684.

It could be a adaptation from Shannon and perhaps we have roots in Ireland?

I am researching the Shannon surname in Carleton and Renfrew Counties in Ontario. My 2d great grandmother was probably a famine immigrant. I can find no place of origin for her other than Ireland.
