Shepard's Place Plantation was located in Leon Co, FL. It belonged to John S. Shepard[1] who purchased the plantation and 66 slaves from Robert Grattan Gamble Jr. & Letitia (Breckinridge) Gamble in 1838.[2]

Census
1850 slave schedule for John S. Shepard,[3] and John L. Shepard. The "L" appears to have been an error.[4]
The 1850 tax rolls state that John S. Shepard has 109 slaves, 2,899 acres and 310 bales (400 lbs) of cotton.[5]

In 1856 John Swann Shepard's estate was divided. Some of the enslaved came from Shepards Place Plantation, Leon County, Florida and some came from New Hope Plantation, Leon County, Florida. The paperwork did not state which plantation each came from. There were at least 26 families, divided as follows:[8]
