  • On Shingleton Ridge sits the remains of the old SHAWNEE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH site. The original church at Shawnee was called Wagner Chapel with the society being formed sometime after the immigration of Christopher and Catherine Wagner to the area in 1820. The chapel was of log construction, being located near the road leading from Sugar Creek to the crest of the hill near the headwaters of Shawnee Run.
  • In 1893 the chapel burned and was never rebuilt. The deed, 23 December 1893 - Calvin Wagner donated one acre of ground to T. E. Fleming, Amos Smith, Asa F. Wagner, Friend Wagner and John Wagner. These guys were trustees of the Methodist Church located at Shawnee, West Virginia, The land was to be used only for the sole purpose of the M. E. Church and a cemetery. The location was at the top of the Shawnee hill, the present church building being erected shortly thereafter and is located at the bottom of the ridge on the other side of the hill.
  • Rev. Bunting was one of the original pastors. Franklin Wagner, a small child of Calvin Wagner, was the first to be buried in the new cemetery. This cemetery is forgotten about and the road to get there is overgrown - the cemetery is in need of repair.
