Introduction
The following African Americans boarded the Ship Banshee from two locations. The first was from Baltimore, Maryland on 9 Nov 1853. The second was from Norfolk, Virginia on 11 Nov 1853. On board this ship were 5 members of the Burke family emancipated by Robert E. Lee. This sailing was organized by members of the American Colonization Society. Captain Wingate was Ship Master.
