Ships of the Nova Scotian Gaelic Migration to Waipu, New Zealand

Scottish Presbyterians led by the Rev. Norman McLeod

ships -
1852 Margaret
1852 Highland Lassie
1853 Gazelle
1853 Gertrude

These ships carried the followers of Norman McLeod and other Highland Scots. They were displaced and looking for better fortune abroad. They settled originally in Nova Scotia, Canada. However, again looking for a better place, left for Australia finding only violence and disease. Norman McLeod applied for a land grant which was granted and the group moved onwards to New Zealand where a number settled in Waipu.
