Purpose
A listing of some of the issues found with profiles having parent(s) marked as "confirmed with DNA" where the DNA Confirmation source citation statement(s) have been found to be problematic.[1]
Issues
- A DNA Confirmation Statement is missing
Whenever the parental relationship status indicator on a profile is marked as confirmed with DNA a DNA Confirmation source citation is required. One or more are missing for the parent(s) on this profile. See the Help for DNA Confirmation[2] for more information. Also consider using the DNA Confirmation Source Citation Maker app[3] to create citations using your DNA test match data. - Genealogical Sources are missing
DNA confirmation is intended to confirm known genealogical relationships. The genealogical sources cited on this profile are inadequate for DNA confirmation. A DNA Confirmation source statement is not considered a genealogical source and is not "proof" of genealogy.[2] - DNA Test Match is between distant cousins
When a DNA test match is being used for simple 1-to-1 DNA test match confirmation, the relationship between the testers should not be more distant than third cousins (3c, or the equivalents 2c2r and 1c3r).[4] To use distant cousins for confirmation requires "triangulation".[5] - DNA Test Match is between close cousins
When a DNA test match is being used for DNA confirmation via triangulation, the relationships between any pair of testers in the triangulation group should not be closer than third cousins once removed (3c1r).[4] - Tester Relationships not found
In order to verify a DNA Confirmation statement, it is necessary to check how the matching DNA testers are related. This information was not available, either due to it not being provided, or a privacy setting on a tester's profile inhibited the use of the Relationship Finder to determine it. Please note the relationships of all matching testers to each other. The Relationship Finder[6] or the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app[3] may prove helpful for finding the relationships. - MRCA not found
The Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA)[7] is not named. This information was not available, either due to it not being provided, or a privacy setting on a tester's profile inhibited the use of the Relationship Finder to determine it. Please note the MRCA of the matching DNA testers. The Relationship Finder[6] or the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app[3] may prove helpful for finding the MRCA. - Name of DNA test matching organization is missing
The confirmation statement does not include the name of the DNA testing company or third-party website where the tests were compared. See the Help[2] for more information. - MRCA not marked "confident"
The MRCA[7] of a triangulation is not marked "confident". The MRCA of a triangulation is normally not marked "confirmed with DNA". See the Triangulation Help[5] for more information. - Triangulation Group Mismatch
The triangulation group testers do not all match each other on the same single segment. All should overlap on the same single DNA segment and the overlap should not be less than 7cM.[5] - The DNA confirmation citation does not confirm a parent of this person
The DNA confirmation statement supplied has a MRCA which is not an ancestor of this person. The Relationship Finder[6] or the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app[3] may prove helpful for correcting the error.
