Welcome to the Shropshire Team page!
Team Leader: Maureen Wilkins
Shropshire Team Members: Stuart Beavis | David Urquhart | David Moss | Rahn Price | Paul Snook
Goal
Shropshire, also called Salop, is a county in the West Midlands region of England, bordering Wales to the west, Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, and Worcestershire and Herefordshire to the south. The River Severn divides the county.
The goal of the Shropshire Team is to make the Shropshire profiles the best that they can be, to be the point of reference and research.
It is our desire to leave a lasting legacy of work for future generations and current researchers, that can facilitate their quest for family history, and bring them one step closer to discovering the myriad of people it has taken for them to draw breath.
Topics
In order to achieve our goal, there are a number of things we are currently working on:
Dec 2021
- Unconnecteds. Connecting up the larger unconnected trees that have people from Shropshire. Our very own Unconnected Shropshire Trees page can be found here: Space:Unconnected_Shropshire_Trees Please add your name in the table against any you would like to work on so that we don't duplicate our efforts.
- Shropshire Notables Adding or improving profiles of Shropshire Notables.
- Shropshire Profiles managed by the England Project

What to do
We handle the responsibility of improving the profiles of people from Shropshire along with several other tasks, which include:
- Oversight of the Shropshire Category Page to ensure that our information is up to date and is consistent with the other England county pages.
- This also includes the revision of our categories, adding correct categories and deleting incorrect or unnecessary categories as needed.
- Monitor the The Shropshire Category Page to ensure that all profiles are placed into the most accurate sub-category possible and not into any of the parent categories.
- Continual updating of the maintenance templates on Shropshire profiles such as {{Unsourced|Shropshire}} and {{Estimated Date}}.
- Focusing on the improvement of Shropshire profiles including sourcing, connecting, merging duplicates, correcting database errors, and writing biographies.
- Creating profiles for prominent or notable Shropshire-based individuals and connecting them to our global trees.
- Researching and updating profiles on WikiTree which are relevant to prominent Shropshire families.
- Discuss and collaborate together, including maintaining the free space Shropshire Research Resources page, adding and updating links as needed.
Communication and Collaboration
If you want to work together, go for it, amazing profiles can be sourced and written as a team! You can communicate with everyone by posting to this page, joining us on discord, through the Google groups: England Project, or by messaging individual members.
Keep in mind that we will largely be working on profiles that are managed by other people—always endeavour to discuss any major changes you may wish to make to a profile with the profile manager/s involved.

There is not an Aldenham category & Category: Shropshire is a top-level category.
What location category would be appropriate for Elizabeth (Dryland) Acton (1467-)?
Thanks!
Let me know if my assumption that Aldenham & Aldenham Park are in the same place was wrong.
Thanks!
I'm not an expert on the Categories, but I would suggest that you could put it in Shropshire Historic Houses/Aldenham Park. There is already a category and some of the Actons are already in that category. Alternatively, you could just use Morville - I understand from Wikipedia that Aldenham Park is within the parish of Morville. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listed_buildings_in_Morville,_Shropshire
Hope this helps.
Maureen
Also where we have unsourced profiles tag and unconnected profiles tag, please could we have a tag for profiles need adding? Thanks Hazel
Good to see that team members are working on Shropshire. I haven't done any weekly stats - I agree it would be interesting to see the progress over the last six weeks. I usually work from this page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England%2C_Regional_and_County_Statistics_Page which gives the current status.
I'll get in touch with the Essex Team Leader to ask how I can generate the table for the weekly stats. On your other question, I'm not sure what you have in mind for "Profiles needing adding". Would you like to drop me an email to let me know if you've seen this on other County pages.
Best wishes
Maureen
Thanks Hazel
regards, David
Thanks for letting us know about this. I have now added the Shropshire Notables category as well as suffixes I, II and III to the profiles of the three generations of Abraham Darby to distinguish them from each other.
You are most welcome to help improve the Shropshire profiles - it's a bit of a neglected county.
Best wishes Maureen
It's interesting that your ancestors were from Medlecott. It's not an area I know, so I'll have to look into it. Thanks for your offer of assistance. If you're already a member of the WikiTree England Project, you're very welcome to join us in Shropshire.
Best wishes Maureen
Thanks, Natalie, Categorization Project
We have the weekly update for our statistics and we are looking GREEN!
Unsourced profiles are down by 97, Unconnected down by 378 and Suggestions are down by 165!
Woohoo well done Shropshire! Thank you to everyone who has been helping out with the Shropshire profiles, keep up the good work.
Becky
From saturday, 1 February, we will be running a month-long "Go Green" challenge.
This will be region vs. region, rather than counties, the winner will be the region with the largest drop in total numbers (sourcing + connecting + suggestions).
All the contributing county team members within the winning region will be given a sticker for their profiles :)
So if you fancy sourcing, connecting or correcting for our West Midlands region comment below!
If you have any questions just ask :)
ps you can get to the unsourced, unconnected and suggestion for the West Midlands region by visiting England Regional and County Statistics Page, West Midlands Region clicking on the numbers which are links in the table will take you to the automated lists. Good Luck West Midlands!!
Becky
The weekly Statistics table has been updated. Unsourced, unconnected and unknowns are all down from last week, so thank you to everyone who has been working on the profiles.
More details are in the "Shropshire Team monthly update" email, which I have just sent out, so if you don't get your email check your spam or junk folder. I am so pleased with the work we have been doing in Shropshire, here's to a fantastic 2020!
Becky
The weekly stats table has been updated, unsourced profiles are down by 15, unconnected profiles are slightly up by 24 and database suggestions a huge drop of 167 less suggestions! Brilliant work, thank you as always to those who have contributed to the team either by sourcing, connecting, correcting, researching, or adding profiles and notables.
Becky

Let's get sourcing! And Have Fun!
The weekly statistics table has been updated. There's a slight increase of 2 unsourced profiles, an increase of 27 unconnected to the main tree and a slight decrease of 3 database suggestions for Shropshire based profiles compared to last week.
If you'd like to work on the figures, you can click the links in the table to be taken to the relevant automated list.
If you'd like to see the figures for the whole of England and broken down by region and county the new England, Regional and county statistics page has all the figures with clickable links.
As always a BIG Thank You to all who have helped with sourcing, connecting and correcting!
Let's try to get those figures down before the end of the Year!
Keep up the good work!

Let's get sourcing! And Have Fun!
Shropshire previous week: 1232, This week: 611= 621 profiles sourced!
Let's keep up the good work!
I've been going over the orphaned Shropshire Profiles and Categorising them, so there will be an increase of unsourced Shropshire profiles next week. There's also a lot more profiles in the 'Needs Gedcom cleanup' category. It would be wonderful to get those profiles cleaned up and sourced.
