Sibley County, Minnesota

Welcome to the Sibley County, Minnesota project page!

Sibley County was named in honor of Henry Hastings Sibley. Its boundaries were established at the Minnesota Territorial Legislature on March 5, 1853.

At that time, the area inside its borders was much larger and was described as “beginning at the northwest corner of Hennepin County, thence up the north of Crow River to its second fork, thence in a direct line to the mouth of Rush River, thence down the Minnesota River to the line of Hennepin County, thence along the line of said county, the to the place of beginning.”[1]
