Simple guide to sourcing for Source-A-Thon and Sourcer challenges.

I notice people asking in Discord about how to find profiles that need sources.

First of all, when sourcing don't limit yourself to your own family. You can start with a location or a surname. I find if you are familiar with an actual location, you can use that knowledge in your sourcing.

First place to start is on the weekly Data Doctors page. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Data_Doctors

There are lots of things to do from here but focusing on sourcing, click on "Unsourced lists" in the green box. Don't worry about the rest of the page which is about becoming an official Data Doctor. Any wikitreer can use this page.

From 'Unsourced links you will come to a list of locations by region. Click on a location that interests you. For example:

USA - Northeast - Mid-Atlantic

Errors for Northeast (Region 1), Mid-Atlantic (Division 2)

1.1 Delaware
1.2 New Jersey
1.3 New York
1.4 Pennsylvania

Clicking on any of these links will bring you to a table like this one:

From here, you can select a time frame and error. I usually start with the second suggestion,

Location: Category: Unsourced Profiles

because it has the most errors. That will take you to a list of profiles, sorted by date. Click on a link in the left column of the table. This will take you to a wikitree profile that needs sources.
