Introduction

The purpose of the Six Degrees app is to visually show your connections to others. The original inspiration for the app was the WikiTree Challenge, and the tagline "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon". Since then, and the advent of the CC7 score now available on all profiles, the app can actually display up to Seven Degrees of connections.

The initial mode displays the connections in a ring around the central person. The innermost ring shows all those people who are 1 degree away - specifically - parents, siblings, spouse(s) and children. The next ring are those that are 2 degrees away - that would be the parents/siblings/spouses/children of those in the first ring ... so the central person's grandparents / grandchildren / in-laws, etc.. At each subsequent ring another degree is added and the "net" gets larger going up, down and sideways generationally.

In version two of the app, a second mode of display was introduced: Family Tree format - which displays an extended family tree of the central person and all those who are directly related to them.

Update History

Version 2 : July 5, 2022

  • Family Tree mode - display an extended family tree of the central person and all those who are directly related to them. Options to determine the number of generations of Ancestors and the number of generations of Descendants to display (they don't have to be the same number either!)
  • Display options now include: dot , single letter, initials, first name, and *NEW* - full details (first and last name, birth and death years!)
  • Text options (letter / initials / name / all) now have colouring options: outline in colour / filled in colour / plain black & white (good for printouts when clarity is needed)

Version 2.1 : July 23, 2022

  • Now able to load SEVEN (7) degrees of connections, so that it aligns (sort of) with the CC7 score on each profile. (NOTE: Because of access to private profiles, the app may have a lower # of connections at degree 7 than your actual CC7 score, which can count all private profiles, including those that this app cannot access.)
  • Show all LIVING connections / all NON-LIVING connections
  • Show all ACTUAL RELATIVES (those related by blood - parents / siblings / children - not spouses or in-laws) / Show all NOT actually related
  • Show by DATE (Living on ... / Deceased by ... / Profiles created before .. / Profiles created after ...)

Version 3 : August 1, 2022

  • Profiles that have an { { Adopted Child } } template included as part of their Bio will now load both the Adoptive and the Biological family members.
  • A new option will appear in the SETTINGS menu to choose to show Adoptive / Bio / Combo of both families
  • Show by DATE - new option: Alive during Lifetime ... (with drop down list of people to choose from)
  • ANIMATE option now under SHOW menu
  • COLOUR options in the SETTINGS menu
  • Use Compact Rings option in SHOW menu
  • Three options for dealing with REPEATS in the Family Tree mode
  • Sharing URL

Version 3.1 : August 13, 2022

  • Link to TimeLine app added
  • Editing Tools added for Family Tree mode to tweak placement and appearance of Family Tree chart created
