Alexander inherited Berne Plantation after his father's death in 1861.[1] So the following slaves were owned prior to that, but may have transferred to the Berne Plantation after he took control.
On 25 February 1831, a deed was filed for John L K Holzendorf giving his son Alexander "in consideration of "goodwill, love and affection" of grantee, + 25 cents .." the following slaves:[2]
