Slaves Of Allen Caldwell Yates

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

This page's purpose is to record the enslaved people owned by Allen Caldwell Yates and attempt to connect them to their families.
Allen Caldwell Yates held as few as 33 on the Washington farm and as many as 103 slaves (per the 1860 census) on their Bladon Springs, Choctaw, Alabama, USA plantation.[1][2][3] His wife, Emily Nail, was the owner of much of the land as an entitlement.

He married, Emily Nail, a First Nation girl born in Mississippi Choctaw territory. He had children with several of his slaves.

Stories documented by his family members and slaves then related to his wife by his niece indicated that he was killed by an angry runaway slave he was hunting down over his cruel nature. A second story documents that two female slaves beat him to death with hoes. Space:Allen_Caldwell_Yates_Plantation,_Choctaw_County,_Alabama

1860 U.S. Federal Census - Slave Schedule Allen Caldwell Yates We might excuse the Race column in this report as we know that a number of Allen Yates' slaves were of mixed heritage, especially the ones he fathered. This is obviously a factor of recordkeeping. Recorded as of 14 Sep 1860.
