Slaves of Allen Taylor Crockett, Wythe Co, VA
The purpose of this page is to collect sources and information to help identify slaves of Allen Taylor Crockett (1802-1870) of Wythe County, Virginia.
Associations
Allen's sister Margaret, who never married lived with him in 1850, and nearby in 1860. In 1850 Allen has 26 slaves, and 13 in 1860. Margaret is listed with no slaves in 1850, and with 16 in 1860. (See Slaves of Margaret Crockett (d 1878), Virginia) So it seems possible that either Margaret's slaves were recorded under Allen in 1850, or that he sold them to her in between 1850 and 1860. Their mother died sometime between 1850 and 1860, so that may have resulted in transfers of ownership.
Cohabitation Records
The following people listed Allen T Crockett as their last owner before emancipation in the cohabitation register on 27th February 1866 in Wythe County.[1] Note that the children listed are assumed to have had the same last owner as their mother, but that is not necessarily the case.
