On the 1840 census Asa in recorded in Coweta County with 8 slaves.[1]

Probate

Asa's probate inventory in 1848 recorded the following slaves. Three were bequeathed to his wife for the duration of her widowhood[2], the remainder of the estate was to be divided between his sons. Whether the sons divided the slaves or sold them and split the money is currently unknown.[3] The ages of the three slaves inherited by Rebecca show up on the 1850 slave schedule listed to her, these have been used to estimate the birth year.[4]
