Slaves of Catherine Spiller Boxley Vaughan
In 1844 Catherine’s father George Boxley dies in Louisa, Virginia. In his will he gives three enslaved people to Catherine:
In 1851 Catherine mentions a (possible) slave named "Frederick" in a letter to her son, so it may be that Matilda's son Frederick was still enslaved at her plantation in that year.[1]
Inheritance from Husband
In 1849 Catherine is believed to have inherited her husband’s estate. In the 1850 Slave Census she holds 26 slaves:[2]
