Slaves of Chapman White Maupin (1777-abt.1861)

He mentions 5 slaves in his Will to be given "to my son Addison Maupin in trust for the use of my daughter Isabella W wife of Tandy K Jones...formerly belonging to the said Tandy K Jones but purchased by me for the use of said daughter Isabella W Jones and left in her charge at the time of purchase." ^[1]

The 1830 Census^[2] shows that he owned 18 slaves:

• 5 males under 10 years of age
• 2 males of 10 and under 24
• 2 males of 24 and under 36
• 2 females under 10 years of age
• 4 females of 10 and under 24
• 3 females of 24 and under 36

The 1840 Census^[3] shows that he owned 14 slaves:

• 4 males under 10 years of age
• 4 males of 10 and under 24
• 1 males of 36 and under 55
• 1 females under 10 years of age
• 2 females of 10 and under 24
• 2 females of 36 and under 55

The 1850 Census Slave Schedule^[4] shows that he owned 17

The 1860 Census Slave Schedule^[5] shows that he owned 14 slaves, and a separate 1860 Slave Schedule^[6] entry seems to show two more slaves rented out.
