Background

This page was created to record the enslaved of Dr. James Ritchie Sparkman, the owner of Dirleton Plantation in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Dr. Sparkman received Dirleton Plantation, previously owned by Dr. Edward T. Heriot, from his brother-in-law, Robert Stark Heriot, in exchange for his plantation called Birdfield.[1]
