The 1763 will of Ebenezer Simmons named the following enslaved:[1][2]

to wife Mary

  • to Mullato girl Catty and her future Increase offspring, her and their respective future freedom and liberty from all and all manner of bondage and service whatsoever absolutely and to all intents & purposes whatsoever or anything hereinafter contained to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding, and from the immediately after the Decease of my said Wife. I further give and bequeath unto the said Mullatto girl Catty, the sum of Sixty pounds current money of this province yearly and every year during the term of the natural life of the said Mullatto girl Catty for her support and maintenance To be paid her by my loving son Eben-Ezer Simmons the Younger

unto my two loving sons the said Ebenezer Simmons and James Simmons to be equally shared and divided between & delivered to them at the decease of her my said wife Mary (and not before) my said slaves:

to son Ebenezer:

  • Lucy, on the Johns Island plantation
  • And all the slaves which are in Charles Town

to son James:

  • all the Negroes on the (Johns Island Plantation)
