Estate of Edward Crosland
Edward wrote two wills, one in 1814 and another in 1818. Following his death in 1821, a protracted legal battle ensued to determine which will was valid; legal proceedings continued until 1835. During this extended probate, several of the enslaved people owned by Edward's estate were hired out for forced labor and generated income for Edward's family.[4]

- Edward Crosland of Marlborough District signed his will on August 12, 1814. Executors: Bartholemew Cosnahan, John Crosland, Samuel Crosland, Daniel Crosland. Witnessed by Joshua David, John H David, John Thomas, Alfred Yeomans (Will Book A Page 88)[5]

- Edward Crosland of Marlboro County signed his will in 1818. Witnessed by Joshua David, John N David, Mac Smith. It was proved January 12, 1820. Executors were John Crosland, Samuel Crosland, Daniel M Crosland and Bartholomew Coshahan.[6]
