Background

This page records the enslaved of Francis Marion Weston who lived in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Francis M. Weston had multiple plantations, some of which were received from his father, Plowden Weston at his death in 1827.

Laurel Hill Plantation

Laurel Hill Plantation in Georgetown County was his residence. In 1849 the house at Laurel Hill burned down by lightening strike. Francis Weston was out of town, or at least out of the house and he was not harmed.[1] By 1867 this plantation was owned or managed by D. W. Jordan as seen in the Freedmen's Bureau Labor Contracts.[2]

True Blue Plantation

The True Blue Plantation was purchased by Plowden C J Weston in 1858 from Thomas P Alston. When Weston passed away he left his entire estate to wife Emily who wished to return to her homeland of England after her husband's death. At her late husband's request, Emily conveyed his entire estate to Plowden Weston's cousin, William St. Julien Mazyck, (in 1864?) for an annuity of £420 per year for the remainder of her life.[3]

A list of the enslaved at the True Blue Plantation, listed as the Estate of F. M. Weston in an 1864 book, the list is undated.[4]
