Slaves in Deed Records
On 05 February 1844, John W. Jones, Administer of estate of James Moore, grantor, of Camden County, Georgia mortgaged to George Lang, grantee, of Camden County, Georgia, for $3,000.00 the following slaves: Maria, about 30 years-old; her four children: Ben, Rachel, Isaac and Molly; Scipio; Mary and her four children: Hager, Lewis, Bunch and Peggy; Richard; Charles and Tommy.[3]
On 15 February 1848, Robert Lang and George Lang, grantor, of Camden County, Georgia sold to Robert Thomas, grantee, for $650.00 for slave Bob.[4]
On 12 January 1854, George Lang, grantor, of Camden County, Georgia, mortgaged to James Mungin Smith, grantee, of Camden County, Georgia for $4,000.00 for the following slaves: Elllick and Janet and their six children Martin, Hannah, Little Ellick, Toney, Rose and Harry; Tom and Kate and their four children Claudius, Scipio, Jonny and Cowan.[5]
On 12 January 1854, George Lang, grantor, of Camden County, Georgia, sold them, or lost them due to default on the mortgage, to James Mungin Smith, grantee, for $4,000.00 for the following slaves: Ellick and Janette and their six children Martin, Hanner, Little Ellick, Tony, Rose and Harry; and Old Tom and Kate and their four children Claudius, Scipio, Jonny and Edward.[6]
