Slaves Received from John Branch's Estate, Probated in Leon County, Florida, 1863

John Branch (1782-1863)'s estate passed probate on 25 February 1863 in Leon County, Florida. In his will, he named various slaves and to whom they were given. It was not stated in the will which property or plantation the slaves were connected to, so this free space page will list the slaves and who received them only. It is assumed most of the slaves were from Branch's Live Oak Plantation, Leon County, Florida, but some may have been from his Walnut Hill Plantation, or other properties.[1]

On 1 Mar 1863, W (M?) H Bradford received the following slaves:

  • Lily and her children
  • Joe and his children
  • Allen (special request- went to Margaret Donelson)
  • Miranda and Jeff (they died one day apart soon after)

On 10 Mar 1863, Susan Branch (Bradford) Eppes (1846-1942), Branch's granddaughter, received the following slaves:

On 10 Mar 1863, Martha Lewis Henry (Branch) Bradford (1806-1892), Branch's daughter, received the following slaves (Edward Bradford co-signed the receipt):

Also on 10 Mar 1863, Branch's estate gave to his daughter, Margaret (Branch) Donelson (1811-1871), his Walnut Hill Plantation in Florida, and the following slaves:
