• When Henry died in 1862, it appears that neither his will^[3] nor his administration papers mention the slaves.
  • One strategy to determine some of their identities would be to look at the 1870 census around where Henry’s children lived in Lunenburg. Though Henry’s will doesn’t say that the enslaved people went to his wife or children, this is possible. Or it’s possible that they were sold in 1862.
