Introduction

Deeded from his Father

In a 4 February 1820 deed from his father Nicholas Ziegler, Henry Ziegler was gifted the following:

"State of South Carolina.
Know all by these presents that Nicholas Zeigler in Consideration of the natural love & affection which I have and bear unto my son Henry Zeigler and also for diverse other good causes and considerations me thereunto moving here given granted and confirmed and by these presents do give grant and confirm unto my said son Henry Zeigler the following negro slaves to wit Quadro, Jack, Hera, Dick, Will and Abraham being six in number to have & to hold the said Negro slaves unto my said Henry Zeigler his heirs and assigns forever from & after the day on which my said son shall attain the age of twenty one years, or from & after the day on which I may or shall if I think proper make a final delivery of the said Negro slaves to my said son before attains the age of twenty one years or from and after the day of my death if I should die before my said son attains the age of twenty one years thereby reserving to my self the use and ownership of the said Negro slaves until my said son shall attain the age of twenty one years or until I shall or may make a final delivery of the said son before he attains the age of twenty one years. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this fourth day of February the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
