It is not yet known what the name of James Holzendorf's plantation was. He may have had more then one, since he was living in Camden County in 1850, then Glynn County in 1860. He came from a family of plantation and slave owners in the Camden County, Georgia area. His father, John Lewis Kale Holzendorf (1775-1861), owned Benceville plantation which he later willed to his son, Lewis Anderson Holzendorf (1817-1879), and Berne Plantation, which he willed to son, Alexander Holzendorf (1808-1887).
