Research Notes
- Profiles needed for slaves
- Plantation (if any) has not yet been identified.
- His obituary states, "Deceased was formerly one of the most prominent residents of Leon county. He resided as Shidzuoka, now owned by Prof. E. Warren Clark, and enjoyed the highest esteem of an exceptionally large circle of friends and acquaintances.[7]
- A FamilySearch profile for John Junius Bradley includes the following note, ""John Bradley and Sarah his wife his parents came to Florida in late 1840 and bought land on side of Lake Miccossukie, in Jefferson County and Lake Jackson Plantation and Ancilla River in Madison County He was also a confederate soldier."[8] The accuracy of this statement is unconfirmed, particularly since John Junius Bradley's wife was Anna Ward Baker.
- His sister, Margaret Isabella Bradley married Richard Harrison. The Red Hills of Florida includes an anecdote stating, "On 3 January 1855...he signed a mortgage and agreed to pay...to David Barrow, the planter of West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana for his fine plantation, the Barrow Place, in Leon County, Florida (citing Leon County Deed Book K, p 742)." The article goes on to state that Harrison was stabbed to death in the Planters Hotel in Tallahassee not long after signing that mortgage by the proprietor (Cade Godbold) of the City Hotel. Cade was found not guilty after 30 minutes of deliberation by the jurors.[9] It is possible that John J. Bradley purchased or inherited some or all of this property and/or slaves owned by Richard Harrison after his death.
