Slaves of John Pitchlynn
John Pitchlynn's Last Will and Testament dated 11 Sep 1824 (See Transcription) provides the names of fifty two enslaved persons. John died in 1835 as the Choctaw people were being removed from Mississippi to Indian Territory, his family among them. These enslaved people listed below, assuming they were still held by the Pitchlynn family, accompanied their slave holders to Indian Territory between 1831 and 1836.
Some of the names below match those found in Sophia Pitchlynn's will of 1859. This also connects several of these enslaved persons to the 1860 U.S. Census, outlined as Slaves of the Garland Family, because Sophia Pitchlynn lived on the same property near Tom, I.T. as her daughter Mary Garland's family.
