Will of Joseph Gentry
Written in 1804, the will began the probate process in May 1813 after Joseph died in April 1813.[2][7]
The following enslaved persons were bequeathed to his family in his will:[2][7]
- To Agnes (Shelton) Gentry: Jemima , a "negro woman"
- To Elizabeth (Gentry) Speer: Hannah, a "negro girl"
1827: Another enslaved person that was part of the Joseph Gentry estate, not bequeathed specifically is sold. Acting as executor of his father's will after his mother's death, Shelton Gentry sold "1 negro man" to Thomas Snow in 1827.[8]
