Information from former page research

Adding the information below so do not lose it.

I think the slaves linked to Sally (Fisher) Martin on the page Slaves of Sally Martin, Virginia, should actually be linked to Sallie Dalton (Hughes) Martin. I did a search for Sally Fisher and Stephen Martin. His 1820-1830 census records show no slaves (images below). I cannot find her on the 1850 or 1860 slave schedules (the source linked on the page for slaves of Sally (Fisher) Martin has been removed by FamilySearch). But I can find on Virginia birth and/or death records with owner being "Joseph Martin, estate/Sally Martin".

Examples:

  • Flora Martin with child Grief, appears to be the same Flora who is on the Virginia birth records, Grief born at Leatherwood, Henry County (estate of Joseph Martin's father), with owner as "Joseph Martin, estate/Sally Martin". Also seems that her child Leod may be the same child shown as "Leah" with same owners as Grief.
  • America Martin with child Margaret, appears to be the same America and child, born at Leatherwood, owner "Joseph Martin, estate/Sally Martin".

I also did a broad search on Virginia birth records [35] and Virginia death records [36] for "Stephen Martin" and "Sally Martin" and no records exist for enslaved persons with either of them as an owner in Henry County, Virginia (except the ones where a Sally Martin is owner for Joseph Martin's estate). Only death records for a Stephen Martin in Appomattox, Virginia could be found, and they were all in the 1850s after he had passed.

Here's links to the images for Stephen Martins 1820 & 1830 censuses. 1840 is a bit trickier. On Ancestry one is linked in Franklin, Virginia. On FamilySearch, the one that is in search results is in Patrick, Virginia. Most likely the Patrick one is correct. But I'm not 100% sure. However, in both those cases, there are no slaves on them linked to Stephen.
