Slaves of Mary Givhan Maull

Slaves of Mary Givhan Maull

Biography

Mary E. (Givhan) Maull (abt.1788-1860) was the daughter of Thomas Philip Givhan (abt.1749-1806) and Mary Ann (Morgandollar) Givhan (abt.1743-abt.1789). She grew up on a plantation called Bob's Savannah in Colleton, south Carolina. Her father passed away in September 1806, and bequeathed her seven enslaved. [1]She married James Maull (abt.1775-aft.1845) on June 7, 1804 [2]. In 1820 they moved to Alabama. [3]After her husband's death, Mary's children disputed her right to the enslaved from the plantation. In court documents, relationships of the enslaved are detailed. The documents are lengthy but the lists of the enslaved are on pages 164, 184, 258, and 296. They include the original seven bequeathed by her father, their descendants for four generations, and several that she purchased separately. <https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/8799/images/007736684_00195?pId=9875221 [1]</ref>
