A little less than two years ago he was stricken with paralysis while returning from work to his home and suffered three additional strokes since that time. Following the illness and death of his wife his mental condition became such that it was necessary to commit him to the hospital. Undertaker Beanblossom brought the body from North Madison last Saturday and the funeral was conducted at the home of Henry Garner, son of the deceased, Monday morning and interment was at Cedar Wood, south of Corydon. There were numerous beautiful floral offerings and many persons, both colored and white, paid the last tribute of respect to the deceased. He was eighty-seven years of age and was born in slavery in Meade county, Ky., his master being Gus Richardson, a former well known citizen of that county. Coming to this county he lived a couple of years in Boone township before locating on Corydon where he had resided about twenty-five years. His surviving children are Henry, Harry and Percy Garner, of Corydon, and Mrs. Nora Ganaway, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. He had been twice married and both wives and four children preceded him to the grave. Three of the children are buried at Cedar Wood.
