Will

In his will only one slave was named, Georgia Ann, a girl, given to his niece, Nancy J Harper. The other endowments were all cash with the remainder of the estate to go to his son, James F Ogletree.

In the event that James died without heir the estate was to be distributed among his siblings but with the following caveat, "my negros after having been appraised by three disinterested men, shall have the privilege of selecting their owners or masters, and those persons who may be selected by my negroes, as master, shall be allowed if necessary from one to four years indulgence on their purchase."[9]
