Introduction

This page is to list the people enslaved by Richard Fordham of Charleston, South Carolina. Richard probably inherited enslaved persons from his father, and also purchased many during his lifetime.

Richard appeared in the 1850 US Census Slave Schedule[1] as owning 10 persons; however the assessments of his estate in 1857[2], [3] counted 58 enslaved persons, some of whom may have been counted in 1850. Richard appeared frequently in the Charleston District Bills of Sales, primarily as a purchaser of enslaved persons, but also as a seller.
