Plantations
Richard Keith Call developed and owned two plantations in Leon County, Florida: Orchard Pond Plantation, Leon County, Florida[1] and The Grove[2], in Tallahassee, which he later transferred to his daughter, Ellen Call Long.
Orchard Pond
Orchard Pond is located between Lake Jackson and the Ochlockonee River in northwestern Leon County, Florida. In 1860 it consisted of 1300 worked acres, and 2544 acres of unimproved land. It was valued at $31,000. The main crops were corn and cotton.[1]

Richard K. Call's estate inventory calls his plantation the Lake Jackson Plantation in his probate papers.[3] [2]
Richard's will called for a division of the approximately 194 enslaved persons between his two daughters:

The Grove
The Grove was built on 644 acres a mile north of the territorial capital in Tallahassee around 1840. General Call had purchased the land in the 1820's. He built a mansion of local woods and bricks made from nearby clay pits, as well as some imported items such as marble. Call transferred the property to his daughter, Ellen Call Long in 1851. The property remained in the Call family for almost 200 years.[2]
Census
In 1850 Richard Call had 143 enslaved persons at his plantation[8] and 75 enslaved persons at a second location (The Grove?).[9]
