In the 1810 census, Richard Stanford was living in Hillsborough, Orange County, and enslaving 13 people.^[1]

Richard Stanford wrote his will on 25 December 1812 and named three enslaved people with unnamed children:^[2]

• Stephen, given to Richard's wife Mary (Moore) Stanford
• Phillis and her children, given to "My two oldest daughters, Ariana and Mary Mebane"
• Jonathan, given to oldest daughter Ariana
