A document dated 25 February 1840 in the estate records of Robert's father James Webb notes the gift of "a negro girl by the name of Julia Ann" from Ann Hunt (Smith) Webb to her son Robert Clark Webb.[1]

Research Notes
Several of the above people held in trust may have been inherited from the estate of Maurice's father John Pomfret Webb who died on 28 May 1846 when Maurice was five years old. In September 1846, Maurice inherited five enslaved people:[5][6]
