In 1862, Henry G Johnston administrator of the estate, was granted leave by the Probate Court of Sumter County to delay the division of the estate as four of the heirs were currently serving in the Confederate Army.[1] In 1863 he again was granted permission to delay division until 1865 as three heirs had removed to Texas and two served in the Confederate Army.[2] In 1864 daughters Sarah Cameron and Elizabeth Stewart petitioned the Court for their 1/9th share of the estate. At that time slaves were allotted to shares and Sarah received Lot 9 and Elizabeth Lot 2.[3] It is assumed that the remainder of the enslaved people worked the Estate until emancipation in 1865.
