1786 Deed of Sale

On May 5, 1786, Spyrs Singleton purchased a slave from Henry Haynes in Craven County[1]

1789 Sherriff's Sale

In June 1788, Richard Caswell obtained judgement against Spyers Singleton for a debt of 4,000 pounds and subsequently a number of slaves were seized and sold by the sherriff on January 27, 1789 to Ann Blackledge, widow (mother of Spyers' wife) for the sum of 390 pounds.[2] Slaves seized and subsequently purchased by Ann Blackledge:
