Slaves of Stephen and Cloyd McGavock
The purpose of this page is to collect information to help identify the slaves of Stephen McGavock (1807-1880) and his brother Joseph "Cloyd " McGavock (1813-1886) of Wythe County, Virginia. Stephen and Cloyd inherited the property of their father James McGavock, and built the "Mansion" at Fort Chiswell. See: Wikipedia:The_Mansion_at_Fort_Chiswell. They were one of the largest slave owners in Wythe County according to the 1860 Slave Schedule.
